August: The End and The Beginning...

August is a tough month. It's still SO HOT, but our school summer break is wrapping up, even if the heat is still brutal!
One of our favorite late summer traditions is the Provo Library's summer reading program party. Our kids LOVE to read and have no problem checking of the goals. The ultimate pay-off? Pool party!
With no napping baby (at least, no one needs a morning nap anymore, which is life-changing!) the whole family could go! The kids played hard and had a blast.
Tyler and I took a little trip down to Vegas at the beginning of the month to celebrate Tyler's 40th birthday by checking off a Weird Al concert from his bucket list. The people attending the concert were everything from nerds to families (from young kids through grandparents) to nerd-families. Our seatmates were in best dress--we didn't get the memo or we'd have dressed up a little more. It was an awesome concert. Weird Al may be weird, but he has some serious vocal talents. Adding an orchestra to his act was icing on the cake.
While on our way back up home, we were able to stop by and visit with our dear friend Colleen. It was so fun to catch up with her and see her new digs. We love you, Colleen!
We wrapped up the summer with one last trip to the Rec Center. Our kids just soaked it in. We were so sad to say goodbye to summer fun!
This year Jack started high school! My heart is not ready for that!
Henry was looking sharp as a brand-new 5th grader.
Cole was positively beaming and SO EXCITED to start 1st grade!
Amelia was playing it cool, but she was excited (and relieved!) to be in a class with her BFF for 3rd grade.
These 4 started on Tuesday...
But Sheridan didn't have to start 7th grade until the next day! She's grown up so much this summer, I cannot believe she's a 7th grader! But it's cool, she was BORN ready.
With the big kids out of the way, Eliza got more playdates with her frenemy.

We were also blessed to have some visitors at the end of August (of course, it did drive home that we really should not have been in school already!).
Tyler's sister came in from NJ with her crew of cute kiddos, and all the kids had a blast together! I know I say it all the time, but we really cherish cousin-time.
Thanks for working us into your schedule, Broughs!
Grandpa and Grandma Carla came out for Education Week and made some time for us while they were here.
You will usually find Amelia firmly affixed to Grandma Carla's side while she's here!
And Eliza was often found glued to Grandpa!
We loved having family here--it was a great wrap-up to August!
