April Flowers and 40 years of Awesome

April is an exciting month! General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tyler's birthday, and the wrap up of the soccer season. This April was extra-awesome because the kids' cousin, Adam, came and hung out with us for a week! We LOVED having him here! Because we only live close to one family of cousins, our kiddos don't know each other as well as we'd like. This week together, everyone fell in platonic love with Adam and we decided we'd be happier if he lived closer!

He and Jack set a goal to make a decorate a cake that looked like the cake from "Portal" which is a computer game that their grandpa got them addicted to (thanks, Dad). They absolutely rocked it and were quite proud to share a layer with our neighbor.

Tyler had a big birthday after Adam left! Yep, the big 40! He did not want a party or a getaway (spoiler, he did take me up on the offer to go to a Weird Al concert later in the summer, but that'a a blog post for another day). He forbade me from throwing a surprise party. So we just partied as a huge, chaotic, boring family. We all totally ADORE Tyler, so it was all good.

Amelia wanted to make him a poster-card with candy bars all over it show him how much she loved him. She brainstormed and wrote it all out and it was completely darling.

He chose a Strawberry with Chocolate Mousse Tart. And it was delicious.

And he is a goofball. Man, I love this goofball.

Amelia had been begging for months to cut her hair "short like a boy!" We compromised with a trial run of a bob.

She really liked it! But she still wanted shorter.

Since Amelia had turned 8, she could now attend General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City in the Conference Center. We scored a handful of tickets and Tyler took the older group to Conference. They were in parts overwhelmed, awed, bored, and inspired.

Look at those handsome fellas!

At home, we made a giant blanket fort while watching conference. It usually lasts through one session before fighting for dominance results in its ultimate destruction.

April saw some more awesome hair (Eliza had just enough wisps to put into two tiny pony tails) and an adorable Micah selfie.

The kids dyed eggs in a veritable rainbow for Easter.

And Eliza proved a helpful chick when it came to finding her siblings eggs...

until some local ducks landed in our yard and thoroughly distracted her from the Mission: Egg Finder.

We tried to get a cute Easter picture of all the kids smiling, but settled for this one where at least most of them didn't look like they were posing for mug shots or contemplating murder.

Soccer wrapped up for Tyler and Amelia and the yellow team at the end of the month.

It also wrapped up for Cole and the "Flaming Gecko Ice Cream Ninja Fire". They chose a new name each game and I cannot keep track.
Another favorite part of April was attending Thanksgiving Point's Tulip Festival. It was gloriously warm and beautiful.
The kids were generally good sports as we trekked for miles around the Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens.
They were mostly good sports. But heaven forbid we ask them to take a picture!

Wrap up the month with documenting one of the many Costco trips (seriously, I barely bother going to other grocery stored, since feeding this horde is a job for the bulk section) and some cute sibling love, and we'll call April a win!
